Mount Meru

4 Days

Overview

At 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest peak after Kilimanjaro. Nestled inside Arusha National Park, just 70 km west of Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru is a striking dormant stratovolcano with a dramatic horseshoe-shaped crater and towering cliffs.

Unlike Kilimanjaro, Meru is less crowded, offering trekkers a more peaceful, intimate, and scenic adventure. The climb passes through lush rainforests, alpine meadows, and rocky ridges, with frequent wildlife encounters, including giraffes, buffalo, warthogs, baboons, and colobus monkeys.

Mount Meru is also a perfect acclimatization climb before tackling Kilimanjaro, but it is equally rewarding on its own, thanks to breathtaking sunrise views of Kilimanjaro from Socialist Peak.
